FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
When can my child start?
Subject to meeting the minimum age criteria shown on our Membership page, children can start at any time (subject to availability of a suitable place). Although we only run during term time, you actually buy a block of sessions at a time, so you do not have to wait until the start of a term.
It looks like the session I want to go to is full, what should I do?
When you visit the 'Times & Venues' page, if a session is only showing that it is full, please still contact us and we will add you to the waiting list and possibly offer alternative sessions. If a session is showing as the waiting list currently being closed, it is because we have so many children already on the waiting list for that session that it is unlikely a place will become available during the current academic year. In this circumstance, please only contact if you are able to consider attending a different session.
Can I book a place for later in the current academic year?
We can add you to our waiting list provided that this is still 'open' and will contact you as soon as a place becomes available AFTER the start date you have requested. However, we cannot guarantee how soon this will be after the desired date, as existing members always have first refusal on renewing their membership.
Can I reserve a place for next September?
We do not keep a waiting list for future academic years as we find that circumstances change so quickly for members and ourselves. However, places for new September starters in MiniStrikers are put on sale from 1st June each Summer (child must be aged 2 1/2 years at start date to make a confirmed booking). Trial sessions for children who will be under 2 1/2 years at start date can be booked up to two weeks ahead of the desired start date, subject to availability of places). Available places for new September starters in MegaStrikers are placed on sale from 1st July each Summer. Can girls join as well?
Yes, of course they can. We often find that girls learn the skills more quickly than boys do (usually, because they listen better and more readily try to do what they are being asked to do!).
Can I have a free trial to see if my child is going to enjoy it before I sign up?
Unfortunately, we don't offer free trials, although you can always arrange to visit a session to observe how we do things (please note, we recommend you come without your child as he/she will not be able to join in). For children aged under 2 1/2 years (and in exceptional circumstance), we can offer paid trial sessions, but we only do this when there is an actual place available for your child to start. In most circumstances, we ask for a confirmed, paid booking - however, all new members who make an up front payment are covered by our money-back guarantee.
Is it a weekly commitment I'm making, or can we just come when we are able?
It is a weekly commitment, as we find this is best for both your child and also the other children in order that they see familiar faces each week. We do operate an absence credit system, whereby you can miss one session in each block you pay for and provided you tell us in advance, we add an additonal session on at the end of the current block before your next renewal. Also, we don't run sessions in the main school holidays or on Bank Holidays, and most sessions don't run in half term holidays either.
How many children will there be in my child's group?
Our midweek groups run with a maximum of 10-12 children (depending on hall size) with two coaches. Our Saturday sessions run with up to 20 children, with at least four coaches.
I also have a friend who is interested - does he/she need to contact you separately?
Yes please - unfortunately, we have had situations in the past where someone has registered a friend who turned out to be unaware of this! The good news is that if you get friends to join ANY of our sessions (doesn't have to be the one you go to), you receive a £1 per session discount at each subsequent renewal provided that your friend is still a paid-up member. You can do this for up to THREE friends (which can save you approximately £120.00 per year in fees).
Do I have to stay for the session?
Each child must have an adult carer with them, who will be responsible for toilet trips etc for that child. When a child is in MegaStrikers and is settled, we may sometimes agree to another parent looking after your child, but this is at the Coaches' discretion and must be agreed first.
Do I need to join in the session?
If your child is joining MiniStrikers, the adult carer will certainly need to work alongside their child until they have developed the essential core skills AND are able to listen and respond to the coaches. Even in MegaStrikers, we occasionally use games which require the adult carer to work with their child. You will not need any specific football skills, but we do recommend that you wear soft-soled flat shoes and that ladies wear trousers (or similar) rather than skirts.
Are the sessions indoors or outdoors?
Indoors - therefore, there is no problem with weather conditions.
I have a baby/toddler - can I bring him/her?
It is fine to bring a younger child, as long as you have a buggy / car seat etc in which the child can be restrained if you need to be working with your member child. As younger siblings become more confident on their feet, it is often possible for them to join in the opening/closing for each session and during the playtime periods of the session. It is also fine to bring school age children to after-school sessions - we are sometimes able to get them to 'help' with some of the games.
We hope this answers all of your questions, but if not, please do not hesitate to contact us on 01452 555202. If you have queries, we usually find it quicker to deal with these via a telephone conversation rather than by email.
